Forehead, Frown Lines, & Crow’s Feet
Entering into the world of cosmetic injectables can be a little confusing at first. Many individuals have heard the term ‘Botox’ and many even know that Botox helps get rid of wrinkles, but when we begin hearing others talk about “20 units” and “12 units,” it tends to become a little overwhelming.
Next I will explain the most common Botox treatment areas, along with the usual dose range (in Botox units) for each one of those areas. Before I go into detail, I want to mention that these dose ranges I am about to explain are relevant to the female gender specifically. Men tend to need about 1.5 times more Botox units than women do. Why is that you ask!? Because men naturally have larger muscles (yes even facial muscles), and these larger muscles are going to require a larger amount of Botox. Okay, now back to the typical Botox unit dosages for women.
- Forehead (Frontalis muscle): (12-20 units).
- Frown lines (Glabellar Complex): This is the area in between the eyebrows. The glabellar complex refers to 3 muscles specifically; the middle Procerus muscle and then 2 Corrugator muscles (one on each side of the Procerus). All of these muscles make up the ‘glabella,’ and all are treated together as one area due to the fact that they all work together to form those RBF lines. This area needs anywhere from (20-30 units).
- Crow’s Feet (Orbicularis Oculi muscle): (6-12 units)- per each side, for a total amount of (12-24 units).
I hope this helps to clear up some confusion for many of you out there wondering how many units of Botox will be needed at your first appointment. Also, it is important to understand that every individual’s facial anatomy is different—which is why there is a dosage range.
