Chemical Peel

Pre-Treatment Instructions

Please Note

We recommend you schedule your peel at a time when you don’t have any upcoming social obligations.  You will experience swelling and peeling after the procedure.

If you have ever had a cold sore, advise our office ahead of time so that we can start you on prophylactic antiviral medication to prevent cold sore breakouts that can arise from the chemical peel.

10 to 14 Days Prior to Treatment

  • Stay out of the sun and/or tanning bed.  Sunburned skin cannot be treated.
  • Wear facial SPF everyday.  This is important!
  • No waxing, laser treatments or other aesthetic treatments.

TIP – A good way to prep the skin is to make sure to apply retinol every night leading up to your chemical peel (retinol is to be stopped 3 days before the peel). Skin prepped with a medical grade retinol has been shown to absorb the chemical peel solution better and help prevent unwanted outcomes. If you need a prescription retinol, let us know during your chemical peel consult. Our nurse practitioner will evaulate your candidacy and prescribe one.

3 Days Prior to Treatment

  • Stop the use of retinol, hydroquinone, benzoyl peroxide, glycolic acid, exfoliants, & any other topical acne treatments 3 days prior to getting a chemical peel.
  • Use a gentle cleanser/soap to wash your face.

The Day of Your Chemical Peel

  • Inform our provider of any recent changes in your medical history or change in medications you are taking.
  • Arrive to your appointment with no makeup, lotion, creams, SPF or deoderant in the area that will be treated.
  • Your skin should be cleansed prior to arrival.
  • When you arrive, your skin will be prepped and degreased to ensure that the treatment area is free from oils left on the skin.
  • The chemical solution is then applied to the skin.
