Q: What does tear trough filler treatment consist of?

A: Tear trough filler, also known as under-eye filler treatment, consists of our nurse practitioner placing filler into the under-eye region to camouflage and get rid of the appearance of dark circles and/or under-eye bags, as well as hollowing (sunken appearance).

Q: How long does tear trough filler last?

A: Each individual varies since everyone metabolizes things differently. On average this treatment lasts anywhere from 9 to 12 months, and in some patients even longer than 12 months!

Q: Is this treatment painful?

A: This treatment involves little to no pain! It is not even close to the pain experienced with lip injections. Our nurse practitioner does not use sharp needle pokes under the eye, instead she uses a blunt tip cannula which is not painful like a sharp needle is.

Q: Will I bruise and end up with black eyes after having this treatment done?

A: No, not at Align. Our nurse practitioner uses a highly skilled technique using a blunt tip cannula for this treatment; therefore, her patients do not bruise after having this treatment done.

Q: What is the downtime like after having tear trough filler?

A: There is no downtime, you can go on about your normal routine. No one will be able to tell that you just had this treatment done since you won’t bruise either.

Q: Will I have swelling after having this treatment done?

A: You will have minimal swelling with this treatment. It is so minimal that only you will be able to tell that there is any kind of swelling there, other people won’t notice the swelling because of how minimal it is. Some of our patients report not swelling at all! On average our patients tend to experience very minimal swelling anywhere from 1 to 3 days (if they even experience swelling at all).

Q: Who is not a candidate for this procedure?

A: Most people are good candidates for this treatment. But if your fat pads in the under-eye region are protruding outwards (usually only present in the elderly), then filler would not be an option for you and instead you would need to seek out surgery from a board-certified surgeon. Furthermore, it is normal for one’s under-eyes to be puffy in the morning (since we have been lying flat all night), but if you are someone who experiences random intermittent swelling/puffiness under your eyes throughout the day (not just in the morning), then you would not be a good candidate for this treatment either.

Q: How many syringes of filler are needed for this treatment?

A: The amount of filler product needed for this treatment varies for each individual, the only way to know for sure how many syringes you will need is to come in and have our nurse practitioner assess your under-eye region. On average 1-2 syringes of filler is needed (and sometimes up to 3 syringes if severe hollowing is also present-usually more common in middle-aged to older patients).
