The SkinPen is an FDA-approved microneedling device. Microneedling is also referred to as “collagen induction therapy.” Microneedling consists of repeatedly puncturing the skin with tiny sterile needles in an effort to leave small micro-channels in the skin. What this does is cause “micro-injuries” in the tissue- which then signals the body to produce new collagen. With this new and fresh collagen production, the skin tissue is left looking and feeling smoother, firmer, more toned, and overall more rejuvenated (youthful looking). The most common areas for microneedling include the face and/or neck.

To get optimal microneedling results a series of 3-6 treatments should be performed, and each treatment is spaced 4 weeks apart. Our nurse practitioner will determine how many treatments you will need. Scars may need more than 3 treatments.
HOW IS THE TREATMENT PERFORMED?
A topical numbing cream is applied prior to each microneedling session and patients feel little to no discomfort during the treatment. The treatment typically takes 30 minutes when being performed on just the face (and just a little longer if you want to add in the neck or chest area).
You may begin to see some results 1-week after your treatment, and after that your skin will gradually continue to improve as your body continues stimulating more collagen. You won’t see the final microneedling results until 4-6 weeks after treatment. And for optimal results, a series of 3-6 treatments is required to get the full effect.
WHO IS NOT A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR THE SKINPEN?
There are some instances in which certain individuals should not receive the SkinPen microneedling treatment. People who should not get this treatment include;
- Women who are pregnant or nursing
- Those who have open sores/irritated skin in the area to be treated
- Those who have active skin cancer in the area to be treated
- Those who are currently on isotretinoin (Accutane) (must be off this med for 6 mo.)
- Those who have an allergy to stainless steel
- Those who have a hemorrhagic/bleeding disorder
DOWNTIME:
The exact healing time varies per patient as some heal quicker than others. While some patients may experience a slight swelling and redness for 2-4 days after their treatment, others are healed completely within just 24 hours after their treatment. After 24 hours you may start wearing makeup again. And after 72 hours, you may begin on your normal skincare routine again.
AFTERCARE:
While the micro-channels are still open (up to 24 hours post treatment), it is imperative that you do not use over-the-counter skincare products with certain ingredients that will irritate your skin and hinder the skin rejuvenation process. Irritating ingredients will increase downtime by prolonging inflammation of the skin. Applying such harsh products/ingredients to your skin too early on after your microneedling treatment can lead to scar formation, and even infection. Using skincare products that promote inflammation post-microneedling can reduce or reverse the microneedling benefits. When you come in for your microneedling treatment, we will discuss more with you on how to care for your skin post-microneedling.
Each patient will follow the ‘Skinfuse Protocol’ after each microneedling treatment. Skinfuse® LIFT, is a clean, non-cytotoxic hydrogel used to prevent the skin from drying out post-treatment. It also delivers necessary nutrients to the skin to help optimize the SkinPen microneedling results.
COST:
For the face, the cost for one microneedling treatment is $375. If you only want do your neck, the cost for 1 treatment is $200. Or if you do both the face and neck at the same time, 1 treatment is $525.
We also sell these treatments by both a package of 3 and a package of 6 paid up front. Microneedling for the face package (of 3) is $1,050, and a face package (of 6) is $2,070. Microneedling for the neck only has a package of 3 treatments for $570, and a neck package of 6 treatments is $1,140. If you wish to have your face and neck done at the same time, a package of 3 treatments is $1,545, and a package of 6 is $3,060.

PRE-PROCEDURE INSTRUCTIONS:
- Avoid excess sun exposure/tanning for at least 24 hours prior to treatment
- If you are on a retinol, discontinue at least 24 hours prior to treatment
- Patients must discontinue oral isotretinoin (Accutane) for 6 months before receiving SkinPen treatments
- Make sure that you do not have any open lesions/wounds in the treatment area when scheduling your appointment (we cannot due SkinPen on open lesions).
- Note: In patients with darker skin color (Fitzpatrick IV-VI), pigment may darken prior to lightening.
